Sewer jetting nozzles are the working end of every hydro-jetting job — the part that turns your machine's water pressure and flow into the cutting, scouring, and flushing power that clears a line. Pick the right nozzle and the line opens fast and stays open; pick the wrong one and you bog your pump, waste fuel, or leave the blockage behind. This guide walks you through everything a drain and sewer pro needs to choose, match, and get the most out of a jetting nozzle — and every nozzle we sell is engineered by KEG Technologies, the manufacturer that's built jetting hardware for the trade for decades.
How a jetting nozzle actually works
A jetting nozzle converts your jetter's flow (GPM) and pressure (PSI) into directional jets of water. Rear-facing jets create thrust that pulls the hose up the pipe and scours the walls on the way back; forward jets (on penetrating nozzles) punch a pilot hole through a hard blockage so the nozzle can advance. The jet angle, jet count, and orifice size all change how a nozzle behaves — a wide rear-jet pattern is great for grease and general cleaning, while a tighter, more aggressive pattern is built for roots and scale.
Step 1 — Match the nozzle to your machine (GPM is king)
The single most important spec is flow rate (GPM). Your nozzle's orifices have to be sized to your jetter's flow, or you'll either starve the pump (orifices too big) or build excess pressure with no cleaning power (orifices too small). A quick rule of thumb for the machines most plumbers run:
- Cart jetters (up to 4 GPM): compact nozzles sized for residential cleanouts and small lines.
- Trailer jetters (4–18 GPM): the workhorse range — most of our nozzles are built right here.
- Truck / skid units (18+ GPM): higher-flow nozzles for mainline and municipal work.

Step 2 — Match the nozzle to the line size
Line diameter determines how the nozzle tracks and turns. Small and tight lines (2"–4") need a compact body that navigates bends without hanging up — see our lateral and tight-line nozzles. Residential mainlines (4"–6") are the bread-and-butter range — browse residential mainline nozzles. Larger lines benefit from nozzles that throw a wider, higher-volume pattern to scour more wall per pass.
Step 3 — Match the nozzle to the job
What you're clearing decides the nozzle type:
- Roots & hard blockages: penetrating and root-cutting nozzles with forward jets to break through. → Root & blockage nozzles
- Grease, FOG & sludge: wide rear-jet patterns that emulsify and flush grease off the pipe wall. → Grease & drain-line nozzles
- General cleaning & maintenance: balanced all-purpose nozzles for routine residential work. → Residential mainline nozzles
- Post-camera finishing & flushing: high-flush nozzles to leave the line inspection-ready. → Post-camera finishing nozzles

Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 — what the tiers mean
Every KEG-engineered nozzle falls into one of three performance tiers, so you can match price to how hard you run it:
- Tier 1 — Entry: precision-drilled nozzles. A smart, affordable starting point for lighter-duty and backup use.
- Tier 2 — Mid-range: steel-insert nozzles that hold their jet geometry longer under regular use.
- Tier 3 — Premium ceramic: titanium-ceramic inserts for maximum efficiency and the longest service life — backed by a 5-year insert warranty.
Ceramic vs. steel inserts
The insert is what shapes the jet, and the material decides how long that jet stays razor-sharp. Steel inserts are tough and cost-effective. Titanium-ceramic inserts resist wear far longer, hold tighter tolerances, and keep your nozzle running at peak efficiency over thousands of jobs — which is why our premium nozzles carry a 5-year ceramic-insert warranty (3 years on the nozzle body, 1 year on steel inserts). When an insert finally wears, you don't replace the whole nozzle — just drop in a fresh one from our replacement inserts.
Build a complete kit
If you want one purchase that covers most of the jobs you'll see in a week, a plumber nozzle kit bundles the most-used nozzles (and a case) at a better price than buying piece by piece.
