Traction Nozzle Guide — Steep Grades & Long Pulls

Some lines fight you: steep grades, long runs, heavy hose. The Traction Nozzle is KEG's answer — a NASSCO Tier Three nozzle (80%+ efficient) whose entire jet pattern is engineered for pull. Where a cleaning nozzle spreads its energy across the wall, the Traction concentrates it into thrust that drags hose up grades that stall other nozzles.

How it works

Six rear inserts fire at tight 8° and 12° angles — a narrow, intense water pattern directed almost straight back. Less angle means more of each jet's force vector points down-pipe: tremendous thrust plus intense, directed cleaning of the pipe floor. The 7th position is a forward insert: run a penetrating jet there and the Traction blasts sand and mud or opens a path through heavy debris for the next nozzle; thread in a blank and it's a pure thruster.

The tight pattern also makes the Traction a strong performer on recycled-water trucks, where every gallon has to count.

When to use it

  • Steep-grade lines where hose weight beats nozzle thrust
  • Long runs — getting the nozzle to the far end with hose drag working against you
  • Sand and mud beds (with the forward penetrator insert)
  • Pathfinding ahead of a cleaning pass in heavily debris-loaded pipe
  • Recycled/limited-water operations that need maximum work per gallon

When it's the wrong tool: full-circumference wall cleaning of larger pipe — the tight pattern trades wall coverage for thrust; that's the Cleaning Nozzle's job. Hard total blockages still want a dedicated penetrator up front.

Ceramic or steel?

Both fit: titanium ceramic (-C) inserts carry the 5-year warranty and hold the tight jet geometry that makes this nozzle work; steel (-S) saves up front. Wear is an insert swap either way. An aluminum-body Traction (roughly half the weight, skid required for warranty) exists for 1" municipal work — ask sales.
