6-Inch and 8-Inch Sewer Jetting: Plan the Complete Setup

Cleaning a 6-inch or 8-inch line requires more than attaching a larger nozzle. Define the deposits, length, access, recovery requirement and completion standard, then assess whether the available machine and crew can deliver that scope.

Use the actual operating point

Confirm GPM at the intended working pressure and account for hose length, inside diameter and fittings. A truck, trailer or cart label does not establish capacity. Pipe diameter alone does not create a universal minimum flow or pressure rule.

Separate wall work from settled material

Wall-cleaning patterns and tools aimed at sediment on the invert serve different purposes. Select the exact nozzle and any approved carrier for the job. Not every mainline nozzle needs a centering skid; a floor-cleaning tool may deliberately work near the invert.

Plan recovery before mobilizing

Establish access, cleaning direction, liquid control and how debris will be collected. A jetter-only setup may require additional recovery equipment or a partner. Follow the asset owner’s specification rather than assuming debris can be sent into the next section.

Review large and used equipment properly

JPS carries larger Victory and KEG options as well as demo/used units. Confirm the available part, configuration, condition, included accessories and written coverage. A used-unit title is not proof of a specific refurbishment process or new-equipment warranty.

Document the actual outcome

Record the worked sections, recovered material where required, inspection evidence and unresolved defects. Match reporting to the contract. Do not extrapolate a successful short lateral job into a claim that the same rig can complete an entire municipal mainline program.
